Last Wednesday night Mark and I got all dolled up for date night and crossed a MAJOR thing off of my Los Angeles bucket list. We visited the Hollywood Bowl for the first time. To see the Los Angeles Philharmonic play the score of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as the movie played on the big screen. I know, I still haven’t come down from the high of it.
I don’t remember how I first learned about this event, I think it was from some form of social media before I had even moved out here. Regardless, it became a must-do and I’ve been scouring the Hollywood Bowl website for details on the event for ever. Back in May I finally saw it on the schedule and bought tickets for Mark and myself as soon as they became available.
I read online that the Bowl actually allows guests to bring picnics to events, so I picked up a couple go-to summer picnic items of mine: roasted red peppers, mozzarella cheese, salami, olives, a french baguette, grapes, and a bottle of Chandon rosé.
We of course got there late. Traffic was a nightmare and parking was even worse, but luckily we only missed the first couple of minutes of the movie. I sat down right as Hagrid said “yer a wizard, Harry”! And that’s really where the real fun begins anyway. Everything was perfect. We had great seats, the night was warm and breezy, & the music was incredible. I noticed so much more of the soundtrack experiencing it this way and it was so much fun to watch the movie on a big screen again! Plus, it felt great not being the only audience member that knew almost every line. At certain points the whole amphitheater was reciting the famous lines from the movie together!
All in all, we loved the Hollywood Bowl. It was beautiful (and actually felt like Hogwarts itself a little bit) and such a fun date night adventure. I’m so excited to go back at the next opportunity.
