I signed up for ClassPass recently, and I’m so excited about it. I’m already signed up to do so many different classes this upcoming week that I’ve never done before, and I thought it would be fun to start writing about my experiences and adventures here, since I just added the new “Fit” section. If you’ve never heard of ClassPass, you can read about it here. I was skeptical when I first heard about it, but I was sold on how many studios I’d be able to access (for a relatively low price). Check it out, because if you’re like me it might be right up your alley.
I attended my first class on it on Thursday. I wanted my first class to be a really different experience from any workout I’ve had prior, so that I could get excited about the possibilities of new and interesting classes at my fingertips (literally, since there’s an app). So I signed up at a studio called Sandbox Fitness for their beginner-level class. And it was awesome.
The studio I went to was located in West Hollywood in an area I’d never been before, but looked interesting. If I wasn’t looking for the studio, I might have missed it. If I had to score it, I’d probably give it a solid 7. It was small and kind of dark, made of only one main room with an actual sandbox taking up most of its square footage and very visible to the outside street. But major points for the sandbox. I got there 15 minutes early to get familiar with the gear and was able to talk to the teacher who was so sweet and friendly, something I felt so grateful for since I was definitely nervous about what he was going to do to me.
The class itself lasted 1 hour, consisted of 3 people including myself, and was a series of strength training moves targeting major muscle groups, done in the sand and on top of the surfboards that were placed on a platform so that you had to use your core to balance as you did everything else! Let me just say doing burpees, mountain-climbers, pushups, and lunges while trying to stay upright on the board was no small feat. I was dripping with sweat (happily). The workout was definitely high energy but manageable after a whole day of work, and bring a water because you’ll be losing fluids.
I’ll definitely be going back soon, but next up I have a kickboxing class, the athlete class taught by Mark, and candlelight yoga!
