food favorites, week 1

It’s funny that I started this blog, with its emphasis on good, fun food, right when I decided that I needed to go on a diet. That’s why the food posts have been…well…nonexistent. The most fun food to make is usually extravagant and indulgent, and that doesn’t really go hand-in-hand with dieting. I mean who wants to see a picture of a salad? We all know how to make those and there’s nothing special about them. But then I realized that “dieting” isn’t really conclusive to my lifestyle. I love food. Basically all food. I love making it, styling it, sharing it, and especially eating it. I just want to do that and still be healthy, which is the piece of the puzzle I seem to be missing. That’s where the Tone It Up program comes in! It’s this really cool, non-restrictive nutrition and exercise program that I mentioned before. I’ve been following it (seriously) for about a week now and it’s proving to be a good choice. I’m hoping that by doing this I’ll learn how to enjoy food that’s tasty, beautiful, and healthy (and inspire others to do so). And that I’ll hopefully learn the art of occasional indulgences. Here are my four favorite recipes that I encountered during week 1 of the program: FullSizeRender-4 1. Chia pudding. Topped with berries. Perfect for breakfast or dessert. Easiest recipe ever. FullSizeRender-32. Spicy Shrimp Tacos. A few healthier modifications to one of my favorite dishes. Still tastes just as awesome. FullSizeRender-23. Macadamia and Coconut Crusted Cod. Fishy, nutty, and really, really good. FullSizeRender-14. Turkey Chili. Spicy and filling. And delicious.  See?!
