a day of detoxing

First, let me start with this. For any of you graduating seniors out there that still don’t have a job, a place to live, and maybe even have a long-term long-distance boyfriend whose existence, while great, is at the moment really complicating things: It’s going to be okay. We’re going to be okay. Things will work out in whatever way they have to, and we will be okay. Repeat this while shoving chocolate in your face, and you’ll really start to believe it.

Which brings me to this: After having just about the unhealthiest week ever (full of stress eating, excessive drinking, drunchies, and pre-made/processed food to fit my busy schedule), it’s time to take a step back and reset my body. As a bona fide food enthusiast, it’s sometimes really easy to get carried away with beautiful and indulgent things, so it’s nice to let my body detox every so often. Below are the details of my detox day:

FullSizeRenderI start my day off with coffee, because there’s no way I can get anything done without it. And instead of a big breakfast that I usually have, I have this green juice. It has almost 5 pound of vegetables in it, and it doesn’t have the gross aftertaste that some green juices have. Plus, I can actually get work done at my desk when I’m not preoccupied with shoveling a waffle into my face. Who knew?

I’m still me, and that means water and juice just aren’t going to cut it all day. So for lunch I make a yogurt bowl, with plain Greek yogurt (Chobani is the best), two strawberries, a couple of mango slices, some blueberries, all natural coconut chips, and chia seeds. Obviously, this is cheating in a big way from real juice cleanses…but my rationale is I’m eating real fruit and low-sugar yogurt…so how bad could it REALLY be? It isn’t a donut, which is frankly what I wanted at this point in the day!

For my post-run dinner I need some protein, so I do a protein shake (I use GMC’s total lean in vanilla) and another green juice. This evolution one has coconut water in it, so it’s just sweet enough. Plus, I feel so hydrated after a sweat session.

There ya have it! I wasn’t ravenous and I didn’t have a headache (which happens whenever I try strictly juice cleanses), but I still feel fresh and rejuvenated.

Disclaimer: I may or may not have had a slice of pizza waaay later in the night. In my defense, I needed an excuse to leave my group project for a minute. That shit drives me bonkers.
